I have always been interested in drawing and painting nature, especially animals, flowers and landscapes. I enjoy taking my own photographs to use for original inspiration. I love the detail specific photorealism of colored pencil, and the loose, more abstract feel of oil and wax paintings. These two mediums are certainly polar opposites of each other, but I really enjoy the challenge of both types of art. Acrylic paintings are also a medium I enjoy working with because of how fast the paint dries and how easy it is to add texture. I teach acrylic on canvas painting classes out of my home studio in North Aurora called Canvas & Coffee.

Paintings and drawings are a personal message between the artist and the patron. If the patron never tires of viewing the art piece the message is based in mood and emotion. The media determines the message as much as the talent of the artist. I find myself gaining two very different levels of satisfaction while working in these two very different media. Colored pencil satisfies my inner desire to demonstrate precision with detailed illustration. I create images that speak to reality. Cold wax and oil camouflages the precision through the liberal use of color, line and texture teasing the senses into recognizing more than the first impression. I find great satisfaction in working with these two media and enjoy seeing the obvious difference in the two bodies of work.

"In this exhibit I explore the chromatic metamorphosis of the humble eggshell and the interplay of light on its surroundings.
Eggs are part of our daily lives; inhabitants of everyone's refrigerator door. They are cracked open, the contents consumed, while the eggshells are unceremoniously discarded.
However I have discovered eggshells's convex and concave surfaces scatter and intensify light in magical ways. A white or brown eggshell becomes pink, orange, purple or blue depending on the time of day.
Both the intact and broken eggshell are interpreted in a variety of realistic and abstracted approaches. As my exploration of eggshell evolves, my brushstrokes became more textured, paint more thickly applied. So much so, that light and color are depicted as practically tangible objects in themselves."
